Instagram gives you no way to style anything. The bio, the name field, captions, comments, Story text and the reply box all store plain characters, there is no bold button anywhere in the app, and text you format in Notes or a word processor arrives stripped. That is not an oversight — Instagram stores what you type as plain text and always has — which is why every styled Instagram bio you have ever seen was pasted in from somewhere like this page.
What gets pasted is not a font. Each style here maps your letters onto Unicode characters that are already shaped that way: type S and you get 𝗦, which is U+1D5E6, Mathematical Sans-Serif Bold Capital S — a character in its own right, not an S wearing bold. Because the shape belongs to the character rather than to any formatting layer, it survives the trip into a field that has no formatting layer at all, exactly the way an emoji does.
The distinction that trips most people up is name versus username. Your username — the @handle — is restricted to lowercase letters, numbers, full stops and underscores, and Instagram will simply refuse anything else, so no generator on the internet can put a styled handle on your profile. The name field directly above it is a different field with different rules: it accepts Unicode, it is the line shown in bold at the top of your profile, and it is the one to style. Bios and captions accept Unicode too.
Before you style the whole thing, know what it costs you. Instagram's own search matches against your username and your name field, and it matches the literal characters. A name written in bold Unicode is not the same string as the plain version, so someone typing your business name into Instagram search may not find you. Hashtags behave the same way — a styled hashtag is a different tag from the plain one and will have almost no posts in it. The compromise that works: keep your searchable name and any hashtag in ordinary letters, and use a style for the tagline underneath, a divider, or one word you want the eye to land on.
Two rendering details worth checking on your own phone before you commit. Instagram counts the bio limit in characters, and most of these styles are one character per letter, so a styled bio takes roughly the same space as the plain one — but the wide vaporwave style and the glitch styles are the exceptions and will eat the allowance faster. And if a letter shows as an empty box, that device is missing font coverage for that Unicode block; the text itself is intact and displays correctly for everyone whose device has it. The bold, cursive, small caps and bubble sets have the broadest coverage and are the safest choices.

Why can I not change my Instagram username to a fancy font?
The username — the @handle — only accepts lowercase letters, numbers, full stops and underscores, and Instagram rejects anything else at the point you save it. No generator can work around that. The field you can style is the name field directly above it, which accepts Unicode and is the line shown in bold at the top of your profile. Bios, captions, comments and Story text accept it too.
Do fancy fonts hurt my Instagram reach?

Why do some letters show as empty boxes after I paste them?
That device is missing font coverage for the Unicode block the style comes from — the characters are intact and render correctly for everyone whose device has the font. It happens most with the newer decorative blocks and almost never with bold, cursive, small caps or bubble. Check on your own phone before committing a bio to a style.
Does styled text use up more of the 150-character bio limit?
For most styles, no — they are one character per letter, so a styled bio takes about the same room as the plain one. The two exceptions are the wide vaporwave style, which is one character per letter but visually double-width so it wraps sooner, and the glitch styles, which stack several combining marks on every letter and do consume the allowance much faster.
