About Compress Image

Confileo's Compress Image tool shrinks image file size while keeping it looking sharp. Everything runs in your browser, free and without signup, and your files are deleted automatically after processing.

People rarely compress an image because they enjoy optimising — a limit forces it. The form rejects anything over 2 MB, the mail server bounces the attachment, the job portal will not take a photo straight off a phone. The file has to get smaller while the picture stays usable.

You upload the image, choose how hard to compress and download a lighter version. Nothing is installed and the original stays untouched on your device.

A photo's weight comes from two separate things that are constantly confused: its dimensions in pixels and how hard it is compressed. A recent phone produces images 4000 pixels wide — far beyond what any screen or form will ever display. Reducing the dimensions first to what will actually be shown cuts the size dramatically with no visible loss at all; only after that does compression need to do any work.

Format matters just as much. JPG suits photographs, where gradual tonal changes compress efficiently. PNG is the right choice for screenshots, logos and anything containing text or flat colour: compressed as JPG, a screenshot grows halos around the letters and becomes tiring to read at exactly the moment it needs to be legible.

Check the result at full size, never in the thumbnail. The two areas that expose over-compression are smooth gradients — a sky, a plain wall — where visible banding appears, and sharp edges, which go mushy. If those two hold up, the compression is safe to use.

Avoid recompressing the same file repeatedly: each pass degrades the image further for very little extra saving. Always start again from the original. Your file is deleted from the server after processing.

Compress Image — Frequently asked questions

Will my image look worse?

Smart compression keeps images visibly sharp while cutting file size significantly.

Which formats are supported?

Common formats like JPG and PNG compress well for web and email.

How do I shrink an image to send or upload it?

Upload the image, pick a compression level, and download a much lighter copy suitable for email, websites and chat apps.

Can I compress an image below a certain size?

Yes. The higher the compression, the smaller the size; try the levels until you reach the size you need with acceptable quality.

Does compressing reduce the pixel dimensions?

Compression mainly cuts file size while keeping the dimensions. To change dimensions, use the Image Crop tool.

Why compress images before uploading to my site?

Lighter images make your pages load faster, improving visitor experience and your search ranking.

Will transparency in PNG images be kept?

Yes. PNG transparency is preserved while the file size is reduced.

What is the difference between compressing and resizing an image?

Compressing lowers the file size while keeping the same dimensions; to change the width and height, use our Crop / resize image tool.

Can I compress a photo for a website without it looking blurry?

Yes. A lighter compression keeps photos sharp while still cutting the file size for faster page loads.

Is this tool really free?

Yes. You get 15 credits without an account and 200 credits a month with a free account; most tools use 1 credit per file and advanced ones up to 5. No watermark, no credit card. Pro adds 1,000 credits a month.

Do I need to create an account?

No. You can use the tool straight away without signing up or logging in.

Are my files safe and private?

Yes. Your files are processed for the task you requested and then deleted automatically — they are never shared or kept.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. The tool runs in any modern browser, so it works the same on desktop, tablet and mobile with nothing to install.
