A small restaurant or café usually needs a new menu before it can pay a designer for one: a new dish, a new price, a second branch, Ramadan opening hours. The usual answers are a template that hundreds of places already use, a freelancer who charges again for every change, or a menu typed in a word processor that the print shop sends back.

The Menu Maker starts from the menu itself. You type the sections, the dishes and the prices, and it lays them out in one of twelve designs, from a kraft-paper coffee house and an oriental grill to a chalkboard bistro, a street-food poster and a fine-dining page, at the size you print or post: A4, A5, an A3 poster, a trifold, a table tent, an Instagram post or story, or a TV screen.

Arabic and English sit together the way bilingual menus in the region are read: the two names facing each other with the price between them, or one under the other, Arabic letters properly joined, prices in Arabic-Indic or Western digits and in the currency of the place, from the Egyptian pound to the Kuwaiti dinar. A long menu takes more pages rather than smaller text, and a section can start a page of its own.

The files are the ones a print shop asks for: a CMYK PDF with 3 mm bleed, crop and fold marks and every letter as an outline, next to a PDF at the exact page size for an office printer, a 300 dpi image of every page, and the menu's data to open and edit again later.

The QR code on the menu can open an online copy of it at confileo.com/m/…, with buttons to order on WhatsApp or call. When a price changes, the owner changes it once and presses Update; the printed code keeps working and shows the new menu.

How to use Menu Maker

1. 1Start from one of six sample menus (café, grill, pizza, juices, sweets, burgers) or a blank one, and type your sections, dishes and prices. Add sizes with a price each, a short description and tags such as spicy, vegetarian or new.
2. 2Pick one of the twelve designs and its colours, then the size: A4, A5, an A3 poster, a trifold, a table tent, an Instagram post or story, or a TV screen. Choose the currency and the digits, and add your logo, a photo and your WhatsApp, Instagram, address and opening hours.
3. 3Download the files for the print shop and for your own printer, or publish the menu online: the QR code on the table opens it on the customer's phone, and a price you change later shows there without printing anything again.
