What size is a passport photo?
It depends on the country. Most of the world uses 35x45 mm, the United States and Indian visas use 2x2 inches (51x51 mm), China uses 33x48 mm, and Egypt, Saudi Arabia and several Gulf states use 4x6 cm. Pick your country and the correct size is applied automatically.
Why do photos get rejected even when the size is right?
Almost always because the head is the wrong height. Authorities measure from the crown of the head to the chin, and most croppers use a face-detection box that stops below the top of the skull, which makes the head several millimetres short.
How is the head height measured here?
From the actual top of your head, read from the cut-out mask rather than estimated from a face box. The finished photo reports its head height in millimetres so you can check it against the rule yourself.
Will it change the background to white?
Yes. The background is replaced with the exact shade the document requires, which is white for most countries and light grey for the UK, Schengen and Australia.
Can I print these at a photo shop?
Yes. Along with the single photo you get a 10x15 cm sheet with cut guides, which is the standard print size at every photo counter and home printer.
What if my photo is refused by the tool?
You are told exactly which rule failed: eyes closed, head tilted, too blurry, not enough space above the head, or too little resolution to print. It is better to be told now than at the counter.
