About Video Compressor
Confileo's Video Compressor tool compresses a video to the size you choose, 16 MB for WhatsApp, 10 MB for Discord, 25 MB for Gmail or any other, as an MP4 that plays everywhere, aiming the picture quality at that size with two-pass H.264 encoding. It works in any browser, free to start and without signup, and a file sent to our server is deleted automatically after processing.
Most videos are too big for where they are going: WhatsApp sends a video of up to 16 MB as a video, Discord's free upload stops at 10 MB and Gmail's attachments at 25 MB, while a minute of phone video is 100 MB or more. Generic compressors offer low, medium and high and leave you to guess which one fits.
This tool starts from the size. It divides it into a budget for the sound and one for the picture, encodes the video twice with H.264 (the first pass measures, the second spends the bits where the picture needs them) and checks the result; a file that comes out over is encoded again before you get it. When the budget is too small for the full resolution, the video is scaled down (4K to 1080p, 1080p to 720p) and, on very small budgets, a 60 fps clip goes to 30 fps, because a clean smaller video looks better on a phone than a blocky large one.
The result plays everywhere: an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC sound, ready to play from its first second. Sound stays stereo at 64 to 128 kb/s and goes to mono only when the budget is tight; iPhone HDR videos are tone-mapped so they do not look washed out on ordinary screens; and a video already under the size comes back untouched when it is an MP4, MOV or WebM.
Videos up to 100 MB and 30 minutes. The page works out the smallest size your video can reach before you start, shows the progress while it runs on our server, and lets you play the result before you download it. Each video uses 12 credits when it is ready.

Video Compressor — Frequently asked questions
Will it really be under 16 MB for WhatsApp?
Yes. The tool counts a megabyte as 1,000,000 bytes and measures the finished file: when it comes out over, it is encoded again at a lower rate before you get it. 16 MB here is 16,000,000 bytes, under WhatsApp's limit whichever way the app counts.
How does it keep the best picture at that size?
It divides the size into a bit budget for the sound and the picture, then encodes the video twice: the first pass reads where the picture moves and where it is still, and the second spends the bits where they show. When the budget is too small for the full resolution, it lowers the resolution (1080p to 720p, for example) rather than leave the picture blocky, because a clean smaller video looks better on a phone than a blurred big one.
Will it play on every phone?
Yes. You get an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC sound, the combination every phone, browser, WhatsApp and Discord play. iPhone videos filmed in HDR are converted with tone mapping so their colours look natural on ordinary screens instead of washed out.
What is the smallest size a video can reach?
It depends on the video's length: below about 92 kilobits a second for the whole video, the picture stops being watchable, so the page works out the smallest size for your video and tells you before you start. To go below it, trim the video first.
How long does it take, and what are the limits?
About as long as encoding a video twice on our server: often under a minute for a short clip, a few minutes for a long one. Videos can be up to 100 MB and 30 minutes. Keep the page open until it finishes: closing it cancels the job.
How much does it cost?
Each compressed video uses 12 credits, the rate of the heavy tools, and only when the file is ready: a cancelled or failed job uses nothing. Without an account you get 50 free credits a month, and 300 with a free account.
Is this tool really free?
You can try it free: 50 credits without an account and 300 with a free account, renewed on the 1st of every month. Every tool uses credits — file tools 3 per file and the heavy ones 12. No watermark, no credit card. Beyond the monthly credits, Pro gives open use with no credits to count, or you can buy a credit pack.
Do I need to create an account?
No. You can use the tool straight away without signing up or logging in.
Are my files safe and private?
Yes. A file sent to our servers travels over an encrypted HTTPS connection and is deleted automatically after processing; tools that work in your browser never upload it. We don't open, read or sell your files.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. The tool runs in any modern browser, so it works the same on desktop, tablet and mobile with nothing to install.
