Compress an Image to an Exact Size in KB
Type the size the form asks for (20, 50, 100 KB or any other) and get the largest, sharpest picture that fits under it. A minimum size and exact dimensions can be set too.
- At or under your size, whether the site counts a KB as 1,000 or 1,024 bytes
- The best quality that fits, found for each picture, not three fixed levels
- Photos, signatures and scans: JPG, PNG, HEIC and more in, JPG or WebP out
About Compress Image to Size
Confileo's Compress Image to Size tool compresses a photo, a signature or a scanned document to the size a form asks for, 20, 50, 100 KB or any other, by finding the largest picture at the best quality that fits, and can also meet a minimum size and exact dimensions. It works in any browser, free to start and without signup, and a file sent to our server is deleted automatically after processing.
Online forms set a size and refuse anything over it: a university or exam application that wants a photo under 50 KB and a signature under 20 KB, a passport or visa portal, a job site, a government service. A phone photo is 2 to 5 MB, dozens of times over the limit, and the usual compressors offer a slider or three levels, so people try one setting after another until the portal accepts the file.
This tool starts from the number. Type the size and it searches for the largest picture at the best quality that fits under it: first the highest JPEG quality at full size, then, only when that is not enough, a smaller picture at a quality that stays sharp, because a form shows a clean 600-pixel photo better than a blocky 4,000-pixel one. In our tests a 4032 × 2788 phone photo came out at 1024 × 708 for 100 KB and 656 × 453 for 50 KB.
The size is measured, not estimated: the file you download is at or under the number, counting 1,000 bytes a kilobyte, so it passes sites that count 1,024 as well. When a form also names a minimum or exact dimensions, both can be set. A scan with no colour is kept in greyscale, and an A4 page stays readable at 100 KB (848 pixels wide in our test) and comfortably at 200 KB.
Pages for the most common sizes, 20, 50, 100 and 200 KB, open the tool with that size already chosen. Each compression uses 3 credits from the free monthly allowance, and only when the file is ready.

How to use Compress Image to Size
- Upload the image: a photo, a signature, an ID card or a scanned page, as JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP or another common format.
- Pick the size the form names (20, 50, 100, 200 or 500 KB, or 1 MB) or type your own. Open More options if the form also sets a minimum size or the dimensions in pixels.
- Press Compress and download the JPG (or WebP). The page shows its size, dimensions and quality before you save it.

Compress Image to Size — Frequently asked questions
Will the file really be under the size I choose?
Yes. The tool measures the finished file before you get it, and it counts a kilobyte as 1,000 bytes, so a 50 KB target means 50,000 bytes at most. A site that counts a kilobyte as 1,024 bytes allows 51,200, so the file passes there too. If a picture cannot get that small and stay readable, the page tells you the smallest size it can reach instead of giving you a file the form would refuse.
How does it keep the picture as clear as possible?
It first looks for the highest JPEG quality that fits at full size. When even a fair quality does not fit, it makes the picture smaller step by step instead of letting the quality fall into visible blocks, because a sharp smaller picture reads better than a blocky large one. The last step runs MozJPEG's optimiser, which saves a few more percent without changing a pixel, and that room is spent on a little more quality.
What if the form asks for a size between two numbers, such as 20 to 50 KB?
Open More options and set the minimum. The file will be no larger than the maximum and no smaller than the minimum, which is counted in 1,024-byte kilobytes so it is met whichever way the site counts. A picture that is too small to reach the minimum is saved at a higher quality and, if that is not enough, enlarged a little.
Can I set exact dimensions, such as 200 × 230 pixels?
Yes. Type the width and the height under More options: the picture is cropped to that shape from the centre and resized. Type only one of them and the other follows the picture's proportions. The size target still applies, and if the picture cannot fit under it at those dimensions, the page says so.
Which files can I upload, and what do I get back?
JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and HEIF from an iPhone, AVIF, GIF, BMP and TIFF, up to 100 MB. You get a JPG, which every form accepts, or a WebP if you choose it. A transparent PNG is placed on white, a phone photo is turned the right way up, and a black-and-white scan is saved in greyscale, which leaves more of the size for detail.
How much does it cost?
Each compressed image uses 3 credits from the free monthly credits: 50 a month without an account and 300 with a free one. Credits are used only when the file is ready; when the size cannot be reached, nothing is used.
Is this tool really free?
You can try it free: 50 credits without an account and 300 with a free account, renewed on the 1st of every month. Every tool uses credits — file tools 3 per file and the heavy ones 12. No watermark, no credit card. Beyond the monthly credits, Pro gives open use with no credits to count, or you can buy a credit pack.
Do I need to create an account?
No. You can use the tool straight away without signing up or logging in.
Are my files safe and private?
Yes. A file sent to our servers travels over an encrypted HTTPS connection and is deleted automatically after processing; tools that work in your browser never upload it. We don't open, read or sell your files.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. The tool runs in any modern browser, so it works the same on desktop, tablet and mobile with nothing to install.
