Word can already read to you: Read Aloud on the Review tab (Ctrl+Alt+Space) voices a whole document, and Excel's Speak Cells does the same for a column once you add it to the Quick Access Toolbar. What neither can do is save the result. The voice plays through the speaker and is gone — no use when you need a file: a voice-over for a video, an audio message, a pronunciation model for a lesson, a draft to listen to on the commute. That is the gap this page fills: text in, MP3 out, free to start.
Paste up to 5,000 characters, pick a voice, set the speed anywhere from half to double, and generate. The text is sent to the server, neural voices render it, and the MP3 comes back in seconds — 5,000 characters is roughly five to six minutes of speech. Text and audio are deleted right after the response is delivered. There is no watermark and no spoken tag, and you can start without an account, where most free text to speech converters cap you at a few thousand characters a day or want a sign-up before the download button works.
The voices cover the languages people paste. English has American and British voices, female and male — Aria and Guy, Sonia and Ryan among them; German has Katja and Conrad plus Austrian and Swiss voices; French has Denise and Henri plus Canadian, Belgian and Swiss ones; Spanish has Elvira and Álvaro for Spain and Dalia and Jorge for Mexico; Arabic and Hindi are included. Pick the voice by the language of the text, not the listener: a voice reads numbers and dates its own way, so 1,234.56 is a thousand-and-something from Aria and one-point-something from Katja, and the page warns when the text's script does not match the voice.
Writing for the ear differs a little from writing for the page. There are no pause tags: a full stop is a pause, a new paragraph a longer one, which is all most scripts need. If 2026 should be twenty twenty-six rather than two thousand and twenty-six, write it out; a phone number reads digit by digit when you space the digits. Emoji are stripped before sending, because a voice either skips them or reads their names. Accented letters are fine — état, añejo and straße are pronounced as written.
What comes out is an ordinary MP3 that plays on anything. Sent through WhatsApp it arrives as an audio file, dropped onto a video timeline it is a voice-over with nothing burnt into the sound, and played back on your own draft it is the quickest proofread there is: the eye reads what it expects, the ear hears what is written, and the doubled word or the missing "not" jumps out.
Two neighbours for what this page does not do. A whole document belongs in PDF to Audio, which takes the file and reads every page instead of 5,000 pasted characters at a time. A recording you want turned into text is the reverse direction — that is the audio transcriber; this page only goes one way.

Is text to speech free here, and do I need to sign up?
You can start without an account: paste your text, pick a voice and download the MP3. A guest allowance covers the first conversions, and a free account carries on from there. Each conversion takes up to 5,000 characters, about five to six minutes of speech. The text is sent to the server to be voiced and is deleted, together with the audio, right after the response is delivered.
How do I convert text to MP3?
Paste the text, choose a voice — an American or British English voice, or one of the German, French, Spanish, Arabic or Hindi voices — set the speed between 0.5× and 2×, and click Generate MP3. The audio plays in the preview player, and the download button saves an ordinary MP3 with a plain filename that names the voice and the date, so it drops straight into a video editor, a chat or a phone.
Can Word or Excel save text to speech as an MP3?
No. Word's Read Aloud, on the Review tab (Ctrl+Alt+Space on Windows), plays the document through the speaker, and Excel's Speak Cells reads a range aloud once you add it to the Quick Access Toolbar, but neither writes an audio file. Select the paragraphs or cells, copy them, paste them here and generate — that gives you the MP3 the Office feature cannot.
How do I add a pause in text to speech?
With punctuation. A full stop gives a short pause, a new paragraph a longer one, and a comma a brief breath — there are no pause tags or markup to learn, and none are needed for a normal script. If you want a longer silence, end the sentence and start a new paragraph. To control how a number is read, write it the way you want it said: twenty twenty-six rather than 2026, and spaced digits for a phone number.
Does the audio have a watermark or a spoken tag?
No. The MP3 contains only your text as read by the voice you chose: no watermark in the sound, no spoken brand tag at the start or the end, and no logo overlay to cut out. That is what makes it usable as a voice-over on a video timeline or as an audio message. The file is a standard MP3, so it plays in any player, chat app or editor without conversion.
Which voice should I choose for German, French or Spanish text?
Match the voice to the language of the text, not to your listener. A voice reads numbers, dates and abbreviations in its own language, so English text through a German voice sounds wrong even when the words are pronounced.
