Editing a PDF — filling a form, adding a note, signing a document — usually means printing, writing and re-scanning, or paying for desktop software. A browser editor removes all of that.

It helps to be precise about what editing a PDF means, because the wrong expectation causes most of the frustration. PDF was never designed to be edited like a word processor document; it was designed to look identical everywhere. Adding on top of the page — new text, an image, a signature, a tick — is straightforward and accurate. Changing a word inside an existing paragraph is not editing so much as rebuilding the page. For substantial content changes, convert to Word, edit there, and convert back.

An important privacy warning: drawing a black rectangle over a number deletes nothing. The text stays underneath and can be copied or extracted with the simplest tool, which is the mechanism behind several well-documented leaks from official documents. To remove information — an ID number, a bank account, an address — use PDF redaction, which deletes the content instead of covering it.
Try one line and download a test copy before filling in a long form. Confirming early that text lands where you expect costs seconds; discovering it after twenty fields costs the whole job.
When you are finished, if you are sending a final copy that should not be altered, run it through Flatten PDF. That fixes the signature and the form fields into the page so they are no longer separate objects that can be dragged or deleted.
