Hiring Manager
Northwind Studio
Application for the Senior Digital Marketing Manager position
Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to apply for the position of Senior Digital Marketing Manager at Northwind Studio, which I saw advertised on LinkedIn.

In my current work as Digital Marketing Specialist, over five years, I grew inbound leads from unpaid channels by 140% in a single year without adding budget. That is the standard of result I would expect to hold myself to at Northwind Studio.

What draws me specifically to Northwind Studio is this — you build a product people use daily and you measure its effect honestly. That is the work I want to be measured against. The ground I am strongest on is search optimisation, Google Analytics and content strategy.

I would welcome the opportunity to discuss the role in more detail. I can be reached at [email protected] or +44 7700 900123, and I am available at your convenience.

Yours sincerely,
Sarah Mitchell

About Cover Letter Generator

Confileo's Cover Letter Generator tool composes a complete cover letter from eight short answers — six situations, three tones — renders it in the same seven designs as the CV builder, and exports it as PDF, Word or plain text. Everything runs in your browser, free and without signup, and your files are deleted automatically after processing.

A cover letter gets about thirty seconds on the first pass, and in that time the reader is answering three questions: do you understand what the job involves, is there one concrete reason to interview you, and can you write a paragraph that holds together. The enthusiasm, the potted history and the thanks for their time are skimmed. Write for those three questions and the letter is ahead of most of the pile.

The six situations differ mainly in what the first sentence has to do. An advertised vacancy names the role and where you saw it. A speculative approach has no posting to anchor to, so it opens with the problem you can solve. A career change explains the move before the reader wonders about it. A graduate letter leads with the course and the work already done. A referral names the person in the first line, because that name is why the letter gets read.

The achievement line is the sentence a reader still remembers afterwards, so make it a result rather than a duty. Cut invoice processing from five days to two. Took a support queue from a sixty percent first-response rate to ninety-one in a quarter. Weak versions describe the job you were given — responsible for social media, assisted with reporting — or claim a quality with nothing behind it. With no number, name the scale: how many people, how much money.

One page, always. Three or four short paragraphs, roughly two hundred and fifty to four hundred words, with space between them. The rule is not etiquette: a second page is rarely opened, and a dense block reads as a warning about how you will write at work. A letter that runs long is usually carrying the CV twice over. The letter argues the fit; the CV holds the record.

Applicant tracking systems normally store a cover letter as an attachment or a plain text field and pass it to a person; the keyword scoring people worry about is applied to the CV. What breaks is the paste. A form field strips formatting, and text copied out of a PDF arrives with broken line endings and hyphens in the middle of words. The plain text export exists for that box.

The seven designs are the CV builder's seven — modern professional, classic, elegant, minimal, banner, onyx and sidebar — so a CV and a letter built here arrive as one set rather than two borrowed templates. A reader registers that without ever naming it. The wording is composed from a phrase table rather than written by a model, so nothing is invented about you and every line stays yours to edit. English, Arabic, French and German, with right-to-left Arabic that keeps a Latin company name the right way round.

How to use Cover Letter Generator

  1. Pick the situation you are writing for — an advertised vacancy, a speculative approach, a career change, an internship or graduate role, an internal referral, or a follow-up after applying — and a tone: formal, warm or direct.
  2. Fill the short form: your name and job title, the role and the company, the hiring manager if you know the name, your years of experience, your single strongest achievement, what draws you to that employer, and your key skills.
  3. Read the composed letter and edit any line of it, pick one of the seven designs, then download it as PDF or Word, or copy the plain text straight into an online application form.

Cover Letter Generator — Frequently asked questions

Is the cover letter generator free?

Yes, completely. There is no account to create, no watermark on the page and no credit cost for the download — the PDF, the Word file and the plain text are all free, however many letters you write. What you type is used to build the file and then discarded.

Does it write the letter with AI?

No. The letter is composed from a phrase table: your answers are placed into sentences written in advance for that situation and that tone. Nothing is invented about you, the same answers always produce the same letter, and there is no confident sentence about a job you never had. Every line stays editable afterwards.

Which of the six situations should I pick?

The one that describes how you came to be writing. There is an advertised vacancy, a speculative approach where nothing is posted, a career change from another field, an internship or graduate application, an internal referral where somebody suggested you write, and a follow-up after you already applied. Each changes the opening, the order of the middle paragraphs and the closing ask.

What is the difference between the formal, warm and direct tones?

Sentence length and how much distance the wording keeps. Formal is the safe default for banks, government, law and large employers. Warm suits schools, charities, healthcare and small teams, where fit is judged as much as skill. Direct is short sentences with no throat-clearing, which reads well for engineering, sales and start-ups. The facts stay the same; the phrasing around them changes.

Can I make the cover letter match my CV?

Yes, and that is the reason for the seven designs — modern professional, classic, elegant, minimal, banner, onyx and sidebar are exactly the templates the CV builder uses. Pick the one your CV already uses and both documents share the same typeface, spacing and header block, so they arrive as a set rather than as two files from different places.

Can I write a cover letter in Arabic?

Yes, and in French and German. Arabic is laid out right-to-left with an embedded Arabic font, so the PDF carries real selectable text rather than a picture of it, and a Latin company name or job title inside an Arabic sentence keeps its own direction instead of coming out reversed. That bidirectional handling is what most generators get wrong.

How long should a cover letter be?

Between two hundred and fifty and four hundred words, on one page, in three or four paragraphs. Under about a hundred and fifty words there is no room for the achievement that earns the interview; over four hundred you are repeating the CV. If the composed letter runs long, cut the paragraph that lists duties rather than the one that names a result.

Should I send a cover letter when the posting says it is optional?

Send one. Optional usually means the system does not require the field, not that nobody reads it, and at a small employer or where a hiring manager is named it is often read before the CV. The exception is a posting that says explicitly not to send one, or a form with no place to attach it — then the plain text goes in the message box, if there is one.

What do I write if I do not know the hiring manager's name?

Leave the field blank and the letter opens with Dear Hiring Manager, which is neutral and correct. Avoid To Whom It May Concern and Dear Sir or Madam — both read as a letter sent to everybody. It is worth two minutes first: the posting, the company team page and the LinkedIn listing for the department usually give a name, and a named greeting is noticed.

Should I explain a gap in my employment?

One sentence, placed in the middle of the letter, is enough — the dates on your CV raise the question and a short factual line closes it. Say what the period was for and that you are ready to return; do not apologise for it and do not build a paragraph around it. Study, caring, illness now recovered from, a relocation and redundancy are all ordinary and none of them need defending.

Should I put salary expectations in the cover letter?

Only when the posting asks for them, and then give a range with a reason for it — the advertised band, market rate for the role in your city, or your current level. A single figure removes your room to negotiate. If they do not ask, leaving it out costs nothing, and naming a number too early is the more common way to be filtered out.

How long should I wait before following up?

About seven to ten working days after the closing date, or after you applied if no date is given. Keep it to a few lines: the role, the date you applied, one sentence of continued interest, and a question about the timeline. That is what the follow-up situation composes, so you can build it from the same answers as the original letter.

Is this tool really free?

Yes. You get 15 credits without an account and 200 credits a month with a free account; most tools use 1 credit per file and advanced ones up to 5. No watermark, no credit card. Pro adds 1,000 credits a month.

Do I need to create an account?

No. You can use the tool straight away without signing up or logging in.

Are my files safe and private?

Yes. Your files are processed for the task you requested and then deleted automatically — they are never shared or kept.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. The tool runs in any modern browser, so it works the same on desktop, tablet and mobile with nothing to install.
