A photo of a piece of paper is not a scan. It is skewed, it has your desk around the edges, a grey cast across the page and the shadow of your own hand over the text. What government portals, banks and job applications want is a straight, high-contrast, white page — and that gap is exactly what this tool closes.
The page edges are detected, the perspective is corrected so a sheet photographed at an angle becomes rectangular again, and contrast and white balance are set so the background goes white and the text goes black. You download the result as a PDF, ready to upload.
How you take the photo decides the result more than any processing afterwards. Put the sheet on a surface that contrasts with it — pale paper on a dark table — hold the camera directly above rather than at an angle, and stand so the light comes from the side instead of behind you, so your own shadow does not fall across the page. Daylight near a window beats any ceiling lamp.
For multi-page documents, photograph every page in order and then combine them into a single PDF. Separate files per page are the most common reason a submission is bounced: one document was requested and seven images arrived.
Think about what a scan reveals as well as what it captures. An ID card, a payslip or a bank statement carries data that does not belong in every application. Anything that was not asked for is better redacted first — properly, with the redaction tool that deletes the content, not with a black rectangle drawn over it.
